How did you get started in triathlons? I’ve been active in some way, shape, or form most of my life whether
it be martial arts or horseback riding. I ran in high school to relieve stress and started swimming senior year since I got
bored of running. I didn’t get serious about anything until freshman year of college when I realized I could tackle
triathlons.
Goals for
2009:
To race and finish strong at my first two half Ironmans and the Baltimore Marathon!
What helps
motivate you to train: I love that feeling after a hard workout, when the endorphins are kicking
in and it feels like you can keep going and going. I also love being sore; it means my muscles worked pretty hard and I was
productive. Having training partners is also a huge motivation; some of my best training sessions have been at Terrapin Masters
swimming. Peer pressure makes you do amazing things.
Thoughts on having a coach: Motivation
is the ultimate reason. Although it’s very easy for me to lace up my Asics and go out for a run, I tend to get easily
bored when doing the same workout over and over. Having a training plan that is not straight from a book keeps my routine
fresh and interesting. Also, since I am racing significantly longer distances this year, I need some personal guidance on
how to train rather than be bombarded by information available in magazines and books.
