Mike's Results and Race Schedule

Name: Brendan

City: Beltsville

Other Activities: Graduate school at University of Maryland working on my PhD in Materials Engineering; Bucket Drumming in Las Vegas.

When did you first start triathlon: About four years ago I competed in the Beach Bum triathlon in Hilton Head, SC.  Despite having to run/walk the whole run (5k), I was hooked. Nowadays I am all about the swim-bike-run.

Goals for 2008: Qualify for Clearwater 70.3 – the Half Ironman World Championships!

What helps motivate you to train/exercise: I wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t fun. The training keeps me mentally sharp and helps me push limits.  For me, a triathlon is more of a competition against myself than with the next guy, and like anything else in life, you have to put in your time.

Thoughts on having a coach: I can’t begin to count the hours I spent searching the net for training plans, nutrition advice, etc… Having a coach puts it all together for you and your specific goals. Nothing else out there will save you more time, both on the course and at home, by helping you train effectively to reach your goals.

2008 Race Results:

*Frederick Marathon (5/4) = 3:40:47 - 5th / 27 (AG), *first marathon
*Bay to Bay Century (6/15) = *first Century ride (104 miles)
*General Smallwood Triathlon (6/29) = 3rd place AG (Olympic distance)
*7/12 = Hilton Head Sprint Triathlon (SC)
*8/17 = Timberman 70.3 (Half Ironman; NH)
*9/14 = The Nation's Triathlon (DC)
