Name: Henrik

City: Berlin (formerly of Washington, DC)

When did you first start running: 2/12/2005 at a weight of 280 lbs

Other activities: swimming, cycling, walking, and motivating my sister

What helps motivate you to train/exercise: In order to keep my weight down (now at 213 lbs.) I have to do exercise.  Having a plan and race dates helps me to get up at 4:45am every morning.  People don't need much motivation for going to a bar to drink...they can do it because it's easy. I want to run, so I choose to do so; it's that simple.

Goals in 2008: To run a half marathon under 2:19:58 (my sister's PR)

2008 RecapIt was a great decision to go with DCRC. I now have a PR of 2:07 for a Half and 58:17 for a 10k, in which I am very happy about both. I encountered no running injuries and I lost some pounds in the process. I reduced my 1-mile time to under 8 minutes...and I ran 1,016 miles in 2008. Amazing!

Goals in 2009: To finish the 25k under 3-hours, the Dresden Half under 2-hours, to break 55 minutes in a 10k and break the 7:30 mark in the mile.  I also want my long-run pace to be closer to 10:00/mile and my shorter runs averaging under 10:00/mile.  Finally, I want to keep my fitness up through April and work toward logging 1000 miles again throughout the year as I did in 2008.

Thoughts on having a coach: Having a coach is awesome.  Those free on-line plans on running websites do not work.  They are not specific enough.  It was hard for me to improve.  Mike takes time to listen to you.  He develops a program that fits your ability, needs, and most importantly, time schedule.  He pushes you when you need it most...and always updates my workout paces.
